SOCIAL SKILLS and COMMUNITY LEARNING GROUPS
Definition
Good social skills are critical to successful functioning in life. Having good social skills allows a person the ability to make good choices, be a team player, keep a steady job, and behave appropriately in different situations. Social skills influence a person's daily life, academic performance, behavior, relationships, and involvement in the community. While most children pick up on positive skills through their everyday routines, children with disabilities may not recognize or learn appropriate social behavior. It is important that parents, therapists, and educators reinforce positive social skills with direct and indirect intervention. Occupational Therapy and Speech Language Pathology work collaberatively in our groups. Each child must qualify through an individual evaluation and are placed in a group that would best fit that child's needs. Groups are offered during the summer.
